The Best, Most Practical Pediatrician Interview Questions
If you are awaiting your first little one, you may be frantically wondering how you’ll figure out which pediatrician is the best option for your bundle of joy. There’s also a chance you already have one and they’re okay but you feel they should be doing more. Even if you already have a child but are interested in switching care for a move, there are several must-ask pediatrician interview questions you should have answers to before you ever consider choosing a provider. Keep reading to find out what questions should I ask a pediatrician in an interview.
Below are the questions I asked Damon’s pediatrician before he was born to prepare for delivery. As a result, though we have moved farther away, we still see her 2 years later. She’s personable and treats both Damon and me. Therefore, having a family doctor that specializes in pediatrics is a great option if you like to get appointments out of the way in one swoop.
Once you’ve reviewed, copy and paste the list below in your phone notes so you have ample room to record the answers and can compare facilities.
Pediatrician Interview Questions to ask…
1. Do you offer an After Hours clinic that is open on the weekends or evenings for minor injuries and acute illnesses? (This can be a great way to avoid emergency room visits.) Alternatively, ask question 2.
2. Does your office offer weekend hours for appointments?
3. Is there a phone nurse available to ask questions and help with suggested home treatments during or after office hours?
4. Do you charge for phone calls with nurses and you? If so, how much is the fee?
5. Do you charge for sick visits, lab tests, and immunizations, if so what is the fee?
6. Are you a part of a group of doctors or will my child see you every time?
7. Are you able to be his doctor until he becomes an adult?
8. What other locations can I see you?
9. How can I contact you?
10. Do you communicate through phone calls and emails, or only MyChart?
11. What is your office policy on walk-in appointments or sick appointments?

After you identify a pediatrician
After a pediatrician is identified, consult with your midwife or doctor to find the next steps in identifying care postpartum. Consequently, there may be a form to fill out. Therefore, it’s a good idea to do so sooner rather than later. This will expedite your child’s records being released for the first follow-up appointment that is just days after delivery. This process will be even smoother if the pediatrician you identify is in the same network as your hospital.
Finally, be sure you purchase a great diaper bag to hold all your baby’s essentials at these doctors visits. My pediatrician used to let me nurse in the office as necessary. As a result, having room for mommy and baby’s things is necessary. Try our Explorer backpack for all your storage needs.
This also makes a great hospital bag if you’re still searching for one. You’ll definitely leave the hospital with a ton more than you came with (if you have great doctors). I was able to leave with so much postpartum care items like the “diapers” and padsicles. But also items for baby like blankets and formula bottles (to supplement breastfeeding, if necessary).

This is a great list of questions. I especially appreciated the reminder with the daycare and school forms!
I always have trouble remembering myself. Some places will fax it for you and others send you off with it
This list is amazing! I wish I had this when I interviewed pediatricians when my son was born!
